The Sultanate of Oman 1918-1939, External Affairs

Author : Raghid El-Solh

Following World War I, Britain began to extend its influences in the Arab world, transforming a major part of the Arab East into a British sphere of interest and dominance. Nominally, Oman and many of the Arab states which emerged at this time were independent, but in reality they were dependencies of the British Empire. British tutelage and control was greatly facilitated by meticulours research into local conditions and trends which was then submitted to the Foreign Office and other departments, and its included in these volumes. These documents reveal the true extent of Oman's relations with the West and cover events concerning Britain, France, Italy, Holland and the United States of America. Regional relations are well documented also-principally those between Oman and Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
