The Sultanate of Oman, Domestic Affairs

The Sultanate of Oman, Domestic Affairs

Author : Raghid El-Solh

Following World War I, Britain began to extend its influences in the Arab world, transforming a major part of the Arab East into a British sphere of interest and dominance. Nominally, Oman and many of the Arab states which emerged at this time were independent, but in reality they were dependencies of the British Empire. British tutelage and control was greatly facilitated by meticulours research into local conditions and trends which was then submitted to the Foreign Office and other departments, and its included in these volumes. These documents cover: the Anglo-Omani manoeuvring over the abdication of Sultan Taimur in favour of his son, the administration reports for each year in the inter-war period, and finally the formation of the Omani Levy Corps.
